The procrastination Kabinett

I guess we all know the feeling, right? There is something important to do coming up, a big project or an E-Mail you have to write, an application for a job you might want, but you just cannot bring yourself to do it. You are too tired, you say to yourself, too busy with „more important“ things, like mowing the lawn, or you are too scared of doing it. Right. I have one such things right now, and it’s from right on this website on top of that. It’s been close to a full month now that I went to visit a friend and drive down to the Mosel afterwards, and I promised to myself and some other people that I would make a full summar, an extensive write up about all the things we did and I saw and the wines that I tasted. I did write down the first day and, even though it was indeed a long text, it took me way too long to write, close to 4 days writing on and off, being distracted by sudden instagram photos and youtube videos in the meantime.

For that reason I have been procrastinating preemptively, I have not even started writing down the introduction of the second day because I am anxious about writing some stupid stuff or taking too long again. For the sake of my own good I’ll probably have to put off that summary write up and move on. The big mistake was really to not take any notes on my journey and now having to remember everything. Ontop of that I only started writing the important things down around 2 weeks after the trip, which is obviously way too late. Soooo, lesson learned I assume…

I’m still drinking a nice wine today however, I will dub it the procrastination Kabinett.
Hofgut Falkenstein – Niedermenniger im Kleinschock Riesling Kabinett 2023
It’s one of these names that are way too long to even write down without a line break, and I somehow see a pattern within this, the longer the name of the wine, the better. Well atleast for german Riesling that is. So, this wine is really good, great even if not for one or two less attractive qualities. For starters the nose: Fruit bomb, lemons and limes and a load of all things citrus, there comes some minerality and dustines, and then there is this kind of burn in my nose, a somewhat unpleasant strength that is hard for me to describe. The smell isn’t bad but it’s tickling or burning, weird. On the palate it’s juicy, fresh and vibrant, there is a good amount of residual sugar to not be overpowering, and there is a lot more of the fruit that was already on the nose. The acidity is very sharp and high but with a certain juicy style to it. The biggest problem with the palate might be, that the acidity is not properly integrated into the wine and can therefore be unpleasant or even hurt. That doesn’t matter though, it will be gone with time.

So yeah that is that, see you in the next post. Cheers!
